Pass it very slow-ly.

Pass!  Pass! Pass! Pass!

Now it’s time to STOP!

Pumpkin Balloon Ball Jack O Lantern

Pumpkin Balloon Ball Jack O’ Lantern

Like many, fall is my favorite time of the year. Cool crisp morning with beautiful days to play in.  The trees haven’t started changing their color here yet, but I am looking forward to that.  It also brings inspiration for fun crafts and yummy treats to be made.

Last year we created a fun new pumpkin balloon ball.  You can read about who inspired the idea in this blog post here.  It also lead to the watermelon balloon ball this summer, and we have a few more in the idea stage – an apple and a Christmas ornament.

This week I had the idea to use sticky back foam and let the kids decorate the pumpkin balloon balls. I think this might be a fun treat for kids to take turn decorating the pumpkin for the day. You could also use black paper, tape/glue stick.  I liked the sticky foam as it stuck on while tossing it about, and was also re-usable.

How we did it:

1- Gather supplies: pumpkin ball, balloon, paper, pen, scissors, sticky back foam, creative genius

Gather the supplies

2 -Insert the balloon and blow it up!

3 – Plan out your design.

plan out your jack o lantern

4 – LAUGH!

Make sure to laugh!

5 – Put on your face.

Start creating!

6 – Finished pumpkin heads!

In the picture you’ll see two different variations of the pumpkin.  There is a divide here as to who likes the plain orange fabric versus the mottled fabric.  Leave a comment and let me know which you would vote for!

Also here is our Halloween giveaway: set of 6 hoop streamers in a Halloween theme and a pumpkin balloon ball. Drawing will run through Monday morning, October 12 and will ship as soon as I have the address.

Watermelon Balloon Ball

Watermelon Songs and Activities Featuring the Watermelon Balloon Ball

Last fall I enjoyed presenting our products at our local tea shop, Maggie Mae’s Tea Room, and a customer gave me a great idea to make a watermelon balloon ball for the summer. I found this beautiful fabric and created this fun watermelon ball!  You can purchase one here for $15 (only four available, but will hopefully have more soon!)

Leave a comment below on how you would use the watermelon balloon ball or who you would use it with, and I will randomly draw a winner on  June 25!

Watermelon Balloon Ball

So now for fun some ideas to enjoy this unique balloon ball!

The Watermelon Patch Song (found here)

Sung to: “Are you Sleeping?”

Watermelon, (Make a circle with your arms.)
On the vine, (Curve hands and arms beside body.)
On the vine,
Sweet and red and juicy, (Rub your tummy.)
Sweet and red and juicy,
Please be mine! (Palms together as though pleading.)
Please be mine!

Watermelon, (Make a circle with your arms.)
Thump, thump, thump, (Make a thumping movement with thumb and middle finger.)
Thump, thump, thump,
I think you are ready- (Point, resting finger on your temple.)
I think you are ready-
Big and plump! (Make a circle with your arms.)
Bug and plump!

Catch the Watermelon

Gather children in a circle around the adult leader. Toss the watermelon ball in the air and call one child’s name. That child must catch the balloon before it touches the ground. If the child succeeds, she gets to toss the balloon and call the next name. Great for name recognition!

Musical Watermelon

This watermelon song by Tom Rosenthal is too fun! How about playing musical watermelon? Pass the ball around while the music plays. In this version, the one holding the ball when the music stops – is out! Who will be left with it?

I Have a Balloon Ball Song

Loving this “I Have a Balloon Ball” song written by Rachel Rambach over at Listen and Learn Music.  The balloon ball is always a big hit and wonderful since you can pack it along with you to a class, park, vacation, or play date.  Just stick in the balloon and blow it up!  Makes a great gift as well.

You can purchase the song here and watch the video with lyrics below!  You can purchase the balloon ball here.

Pumpkin Songs and Activities

Fall is one  of my favorite times of year and all the pumpkin love has gotten the creative juices flowing around here.

While I was working on this blog post, and had a pile of 75 balloon ball pieces on the cutting table, our almost 16 year old had this fabulous idea!  “Mom, you should make a pumpkin balloon ball.”

So I did!

Pumpkin Music and Movement

Pumpkin Songs for Movement Props

One song that works well with the stretchy band is found at Everything Preschool

Place a pumpkin or a picture of one in the middle of the circle.

Ring around the Pumpkin,  (Walk around the pumpkin holding the stretchy band)
Pocket full of nuts,  (Stand still and move the band close to the pockets, as if you’re putting nuts in)
Leaves, leaves,   (raise the band up and shake the band as if a tree was swaying)
They all fall down.  (fall down to the ground with the leaves)
Other movement ideas.  What else can you think of?

March around the pumpkin,
pocket full of nuts,
leaves, leaves,
they all fall down.

Stomp around the pumpkin,
pocket full of nuts,
leaves, leaves,
they all fall down.

Tip-toe around the pumpkin,
pocket full of nuts,
leaves, leaves,
they all fall down.

Jump around the pumpkin,
pocket full of nuts,
leaves, leaves,
they all fall down.

Here is a round up of some great songs to use with the stretchy band, streamers, pumpkin balloon ball, or real/paper pumpkin you’ve made.

Pumpkin Bean Bag Toss

Pumpkin Bean Bag Toss

How fun is this?  This post explains all how to make this great pumpkin bean bag toss. She used Fun-Kins, but one could use real pumpkins.  You would want to make sure your bean bags are washable if  you use real pumpkins!  I love the leaf bean bags -how fun.  I think I’ll add that to my sewing list for next year.  We have both textured bean bags and square bean bags available.
