Connect-a-Stretchy Band with Giddy Up and Old Brass Wagon Music Activities

Connect-a-Stretchy Band with Giddy Up and Old Brass Wagon Music Activities

Here are few songs to use with the connect-a-stretchy band or stretchy band.  Music stimulates both sides of the brain, lifts our spirits, and makes tedious activities seem fun. Incorporating motion with music brings along all the excellent physical and emotional benefits of exercise, strengthening our muscles, and improving coordination.

A Finger Play

A fun little finger play, which of course could be done around the stretchy band.

10 Little Cowboys

Ten little cowboys ( hold up 10 fingers)
Standing in a row-
When they see the foreman
They bow just so-  ( bend fingers down)
They ride to the left  (hands move left)
And they ride to the right  (move hands to right)
And then they shut their eyes
And sleep all night.  (put cheek on hands)

Old Brass Wagon Song

I was listening to a kids radio station on iTunes   one day and heard the song “Old Brass Wagon.”  I thought it would be perfect for the connect-a-band.  It’s another fun one!

  1. “Old Brass Wagon” is one of my favorite folk songs to use with Elementary School students! Your suggestion to use the stretchy-band for this song is perfect for my K students as we work on directionality and feeling steady beat! Thanks! I have used “Old Brass Wagon” as a folk dance with Gr4. Bringing out the stretchy band could engage students who are less comfortable with movement activities at that level, providing them with a focus that distracts from social inhibitions and connects them without direct physical contact with peers!
